Ocean Turtle Diving, Basingstoke - Scuba diving instructor Alan Smith
PADI Course Director

Alan discovered scuba diving at the end of the nineties, while on a holiday in Barbados. After that completing his Open Water training at Horsea Island was, well, different! Since then he's dived in Hawaii, The Canaries, The USA and the Red Sea as well as the UK and has also done more diving in the Caribbean. His previous experience as an instructor trainer in the world of aviation meant it wasn't long before the urge to teach returned; he completed his Divemaster qualifications and went on to become a PADI Instructor. Now, as a PADI Course Director he is one of less than 1% of the PADI membership that is trusted to run Instructor Development programmes.

Alan's quote of the day: "It matters not whether the glass is half full or half empty - there's still room for another half, thank you!"

Paul Manser Paul "Curly" Manser
PADI Master Scuba Diver Trainer, RYA Instructor, EFR Instructor

Curly started diving in the early 90’s and soon found out how addictive it was, with early adventures from Stoney Cove to the dizzy heights of the Isle of Wight (his favourite dive site.) Curly was fortunate enough to travel around the world, diving in places such as Thailand, Egypt, New Zealand and Malta. He climbed the ranks of PADI and became an Instructor in 1999, after 5 years as a Divemaster, for the love of it, and has since gone on to become a Master Scuba Diver Trainer, TDI instructor and a regular Tri-mix abuser. Curly's alter ego is Capt Pugwash as he is an RYA Power Yachtmaster and Power boat Instructor.

Curly's quote of the day “Captain's word is final, white no sugar please"
